Onara
August 16, 2008Wow! Its been almost a year since my last update. I have been very busy (lazy) indeed. I managed to get back into piano for a while, although not continuing with the Alfred course, I managed to learn my first complete song (excluding the Alfred stuff). Proud yet ashamed of this achievement. I have had my piano for almost two years now but haven’t progressed as quickly as I would have liked. It was the same for guitar too.
I had decided to learn the theme song ‘Onara’ from the South Korean drama Dae Jang Geum which is about the life of the first female royal physician of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea.
The original song is wonderful and very catchy in a way. It has a very traditional folk sound to it. I managed to find the sheet music out on the web and you can view it below.
Lyrics (Korean version)
Onara onara aju ona
Gadara gadara aju gana
Nanani daryeodo mot nonani
Aniri aniri ani none
Heiya diiya heiya naranino
Ojido mothana daryeogama
Hae-i-a diiya haeiyadara nino
Ojido mothana daryeogama
Aniri aniri ani none
And here is my recording. Has a few problems keeping in time and I think I need to work on the dynamics, I seem to be hitting some keys too hard.

Great post. I’m going to have to share this with my students!
by Edward Weiss August 26, 2008 at 3:25 amThank you for doing this. Do you by chance know where I could purchase the sound track for Jewel in the Palace. I live in the US, but can’t seem to find a site here that sells Korean music. Thank you
